Stretto Approved As Authorized Provider For Online Portal Facilitating Student Loan Discharge In Bankruptcy In Middle District Of Florida

IRVINE, Calif., September 1, 2026 – To facilitate the discharge of student loan debt in bankruptcy, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Middle District of Florida has adopted a student loan discharge program with Stretto as the approved provider for its online portal. Through the program and portal, debtors and their professionals can submit, retrieve, and track documents and other communications among the required parties through a secure website. The court implemented the program and portal to provide greater transparency by making information available to all parties in a secure, easy-to-access location.

Since the Department of Justice introduced new Guidance on November 17, 2022¹, discharging student loans in bankruptcy has become more attainable for financially distressed student loan borrowers. While the law itself has not changed, the process for proving “undue hardship” in federal student loan cases has been made more transparent. By providing objective criteria and a streamlined process through which debtors can seek review, the Guidance gives debtors and their attorneys a more reliable way to pursue and discharge federal student loan debt.

As student loan debt remains at record levels with fewer repayment options available due to recent policy changes, student loan discharge in bankruptcy provides a promising pathway forward for millions of student loan borrowers facing financial hardship. In fact, recent reports indicate that 87% of adversary proceedings seeking discharge of student loan debt in bankruptcy result in a full or partial discharge.²
